A New Beginning

Recently I decided to venture into the world of film photography. No, I did not do this to be 'hip', or to stand apart from the crowd. The reasons are many, but there are two that particularly stand out. First, I simply enjoy the experience of working with a more mechanical medium. Working with film demands a certain change in mindset, such that a photograph becomes something that you craft rather than take. This is a mindset that I am learning to carry over into my digital work, with noticeable results.

Second, working with film has allowed me to cut down the time I spend in front of a computer. Because of my current workload I have been glued to my desk, spending countless hours editing and retouching commercial work. By delivering slightly fewer digital files, and trusting my film to an excellent lab such as PhotoVision, I have been able to maximize the amount of files I deliver, while also cutting down on time I would otherwise be forced to spend away from doing the one thing I love most: photography.

Here are a few images from a recent shoot with @missashleybriana. These were all shot on 35mm film (Portra 400 and 400TX) with a Minolta XD11 and a Minolta XE-7. Enjoy.
